Our first designer on Fashion Phoenix!! We are honored to introduce Natalia Acosta. Natalia specializes in unique, one-of-a-kind evening gowns all designed and hand-sewn by Natalia herself. We had the honor of chatting with her today and here are some of the highlights…

On making evening gowns… Natalia loves glamour and loves how a beautiful dress can make any woman feel like a queen. She says, “it changes a person…you feel beautiful.” And evening gowns allow for the most creative freedom. She doesn’t follow trends because a well made, well designed dress will never go out of style.

On making a dress… She can use sew a garment using any fabric – silk, organza, lace – anything! The general design usually takes a couple of hours, but the embellishments can take awhile depending on the design! And Natalia hand-sews everything herself!

On becoming a fashion designer… Natalia is originally from Mexico, but moved to Phoenix 10 years ago to earn a Fashion Design degree from Phoenix College. She is currently working on her second degree from Phoenix College in Fashion Merchandising, while creating, sewing and selling her gowns at her private studio. Natalia gained a lot of attention last fall as one of 5 finalists for “Designer of the Year” at Scottsdale Fashion Week 2008.

On owning an original Natalia Acosta evening gown… Currently, Natalia’s gowns are only sold by appointment at her private studio. She has over 70 original gowns ready to be custom tailored to size. And stacks of dress sketches that can be made.

On being a fashion designer in Phoenix… Natalia lives and works in Scottsdale and has no plans of relocating to LA or New York. She thinks the future of the fashion industry is bright for Phoenix.

On drawing inspiration… Her designs are organic, created from within. But she would love to dress Salma Hayek, Jennifer Lopez or Nicole Kidman
