Phoenix Named Worst Dressed People – Is it Too Hot to Be Haute?

Tie This One On

Recently, Travel + Leisure reported Phoenix/Scottsdale to be one of the least fashionable cities in America. Ouch! The magazine’s perception of Phoenix is that we are unfashionable and unstylish, because we have a bolo tie museum. We do? I didn’t know that, did you?

And the bolo tie??? What?? I haven’t seen a bolo tie until 5 minutes ago when a man walking outside my window in Old Town was wearing one. Literally, I just saw an 85 year old man walking outside wearing a bolo tie as I’m writing this!! No joke. Does that prove their point?

Maybe it’s because it’s often too hot to be haute, like today. Do you find yourself motivated to dress fashionably when it’s 112 degrees? Is there a time of year when you care more about looking good versus keeping cool? Or are you always, no matter the mercury, interested in fashion?  No matter the weather, here’s one thing Travel + Leisure forgot to mention: it’s never too hot to shop.

We have great shopping here, from Scottsdale Fashion Square to Chandler Fashion Center to Arrowhead Towne Center. Celebrities and shop-a-holics alike come from all over the world, drop their cash while shopping. To prove my point, did you know that our Neiman Marcus Scottsdale is a top producing store for sales of furs and leather companywide?! Well who’s buying all that buckskin? Not this native or the Arizonans I know.

So tie this one on Travel + Leisure… if it’s too hot to be haute, it’s never to hot to shop in Arizona.

Jewelry by Gauthier: Behind the Bling with Scott Gauthier

jewelrygauthierThe jewelry gallery, Gauthier, in Scottsdale has been a staple to the upscale shopping galleries on Marshall Way in Old Town Scottsdale for many years. After meeting the man behind the bling, Scott Gauthier himself during a private tour and interview last week, I am still finding the words to express how beautiful and creative the hand-crafted jewelry is. Luckily, you can visit the jewelry gallery in Scottsdale to see for yourself.

Scott Gauthier Jewelry ScottsdaleThe pieces are both art and architecture; wearable and inspirational, and an instant heirloom for those who lucky enough to have. For 24 years, the self-taught jewelry designer, Scott Gauthier, has been creating and designing each piece himself. Yes each piece is still the design of the designer, though now he has a fabulous staff to help create each finished piece. But even after a staff, two stores, 24 years and a collection of jewels that even the Smithsonian has tried to haggle for, Gauthier still has a kid-like excitement and enthusiasm around his work, his designs and his international clientele.

The in-house design and jewelry operation is amazing and so quality-driven.   I can’t even pick a favorite of the many, many hand-polished, exotic stones Gauthier shared, though I keep seeing the aquamarine necklace suite in my day dreams. The collection of stones Gauthier has been gathering over his tenure will take your breath away. And the finished pieces, well, most will leave you speechless.

Gauthier has two stores in the Valley and a third to open soon in Santa Barbara, California. And even more exciting, now the internet shopper is able to purchase online with the launch of Gauthier’s online jewelry e-commerce site this week, allowing customers to add Gauthier pieces to their online wish list or purchase an amazing new piece for their collection with a few clicks.
