“The Fashion Show” Review

I really liked last week’s premier of “The Fashion Show” on Bravo TV. TFS replaced “Project Runway” since its departure to Lifetime. At first glance, TFS seemed like a complete rip-off of PR. And the premise is the same with hopeful designers living in New York, weekly design challenges, a panel of design/style experts including designer Isaac Mizrahi and Kelly Rowland (Destiny’s Child) and designers getting booted off each week. The main difference is that the designers show their finished garments/looks to an audience, just like a real fashion show each week. Love it! The audience is comprised of fashion designers (like Elie Tahari) and fashion lovers in general.
I don’t want to spoil the episode if you’ve yet to watch it. Here are a few of my favorite quotes from the premier episode of “The Fashion Show”…
Designer - “I’m not the best at sewing”. (Mmmm-interesting comment. Your sewing skills are probably your best asset in timed contest like this!)
Isaac - “I was embarrassed. If any of you worked for me, you would be fired.” (Ouch!!)
Audience member - “Some of the sewing was a little too homemade for my tastes”. (Mine too. If I wanted homemade looking clothes, I’d make them myself).
Isaac - “I wish I had someone being honest with me at your age”. (Tru dat!)
Isaac – “An audience member said ‘It looked slutty’”. (Again, ouch!)
I’m going to be watching this summer and looking forward as the designers blossom. I was surprised that I liked both Isaac and Kelly as hosts. I especially liked Kelly’s ensembles – they are reason enough for me to tune in!! She looks great! Can’t wait until this Thursday. The previews show at least 3 designers crying already!! I love the fashion drama! Check out this episode and cast blogs at www.bravotv.com.
