Zappos proves that footwear is a hot commodity! For me personally, shoes and handbags are always the best investments. And even better to purchase from a company that really cares about its people, its culture and revitalization. Congratulations Zappos!

Here’s the scoop from WWD…

Zappos.com is making some big moves. This year, the e-tailer ranked No. 6 on Fortune’s annual “100 Best Companies to Work For” List, released last week.

The company made its debut on the list at No. 23 in 2009, moved up to No. 15 in 2010 and rose nine spots again this year. Zappos also registered the biggest percentage year-over-year job growth on the list, at 37 percent.

“While the external recognition of making the list for the third year in a row is great for recruiting purposes, internally the most important thing is for us to take our culture to the next level as we continue to grow,” said Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh in an email sent to employees last Thursday.

One way Hsieh is looking to elevate culture is through the company’s move to downtown Las Vegas in 2012 or 2013. Zappos plans to inhabit the soon-to-be-vacated City Hall complex, and Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman heralded the move as a “game changer” for downtown revitalization efforts. “Our proposed future downtown location will be a great urban environment that will help grow the cultures of both Zappos and Las Vegas,” Hsieh said.

A Case of The Coat’s Whereabouts…

A scandalous situation beginning last month with French Vogue’s banishment at the Balenciaga runway show in retaliation of a coat lent to Conde Naste’s French Vogue, now leading to the demise of Carine Roitfield, editor-in-chief. Who will fill the coveted role?

How the innocent coat was treated (or mistreated), photographed, worn (or worse, NOT worn), schlepped around the globe, we may never know. But far more disturbing to me in this, the Case of the Coat’s Whereabouts, is how the chain of events eerily resemble that of those in my favorite fashion move, The Devil Wears Prada. For me today, it begs the question, does art imitate life or the converse?
