Worn by Judy Garland in the 1939 original “Wizard of Oz,” Kira’s most favorite movie EVER, the iconic ruby slippers are going up for auction December 16th. The pair is expected to bring in at least $2.6 million dollars, equating to about 5,200 pairs of $500 Manolo Blahniks.

We’ve been seeing hair tinsel as a beauty trend for quite some time now. Recently, I decided to rock some brightly colored tinsel for an interesting reason beyond beauty and fun: networking and marketing.
Who would think that the glimmering strands of color would attract so much attention? I didn’t. And interestingly, it did. And from women. After just one week of wearing the strands, I bet 10-15 different women have commented on them – in the airport, at the grocery store, my son’s school, everywhere. The strands have allowed for a few thoughtful impromptu conversations, two business card tradings and even a new Facebook friend.
Surprisingly, the shimmers are easy to attach to a single strand of your hair and last, by Ellen Gerst, owner of Lighten Up and Smile, or by yourself if you are ever so coordinated (not me!). Though a few have fallen out, there are more than 1/2 still attached, beyond a week’s worth of traveling, blow drying, styling, brushing and more.
The strands come in a few different colors (I got the multi-color, pastel rainbow) and at just $20 for a pack, an easy investment to making new friends and striking up colorful conversations with strangers.
Try it. I love them! Watch Ellen’s video about her hair shimmers here.

It’s not often I complain about a product, but Maybelline’s Volum’ Express ” The Falsies” mascara was so goopy and clumpy, I have to warn you. Just look at it from the bottle and you can imaging the sticky mess it creates around your eye. Per usual, I’m forced back to my standby, Maybelline’s Great Lash.
What brand do you like? Comment here on your favorite mascara.
