BEAUTY ESSENTIALS.

By: Lindsey

Finding a good deal on a budget, especially if it’s something you need and will use often is smart when you need to be a frugal fashionista. While shopping for new beauty products I found exactly what I needed at Sephora. I have been looking for a fantastic full-coverage, oil free concealer for quite some time. Until recently, I found what I think might be the cure for an unsightly blemish, Murad: Acne Treatment Concealer. Immediately, I felt relieved and to be honest, a bit skeptical if the product would work but decided to go for it, bought the product and used it for a week.

After using the Acne Concealer 1 to 2x daily I’ve noticed a change in my skin tone. To my surprise, the redness and swelling of a few blemishes decreased dramatically. I am so glad that I found a product that not only conceals blemishes but actually fixes the problem instead of just ‘covering it up.’ This product contains 2.0% Salicylic Acid, is long-lasting and provides good coverage.

I prefer to buy beauty products that don’t test on animals, contain parabens or have unnecessary chemicals. That’s why I love natural products by Korres! I love their Eyeliner Pencil in Black. The pencil is long lasting, made of Cedar wood and is enriched with herbs and vitamins. You can buy Murad and Korres online at Sephora or in the store.

I’M A NATURAL BLONDE TRAPPED IN A BRUNETTE BODY. ARE YOU?

Are you like me? The evolution of our true selves and consequently, our body including our hair is amazing. Just got my roots done yesterday, back to bright blonde as I have been doing for quite some time. Kevin, my hairstylist, and I noticed how fast my roots had grown. For the last couple of super stressful years, I have noticed that my hair wouldn’t grow to the frustrating point of me contemplating shaving or physically pulling it out.

But finally, finally, it’s growing. Strong and beautiful. Why?? What’s the secret?? I’m finally being good to myself, discovering my style for my life, loving myself which is being gentle on myself, accepting myself and all the many, many mistakes I have made, respecting my body and my boundaries and have made the decision to live my life the way I want to live it, rather than by everyone’s expectations. Not easy for a tenured people-pleaser. I’ve been people pleasing for 32 years – following rules and guidelines set by others that I often found to be opposite of what I believe and find truth in. However, I believe that until we find the strength and conviction to be our real selves, as I am finally learning to be, it’s difficult and exhausting to be anything to anyone, much less, everything to everyone and to grow ourselves (including our hair). Then, can I be something to someone, and maybe, a little bit to a lot.

I just saw this quote by Bill Cosby, posted by Kourtney Kardashian on Twitter, “I don’t know the key to success, but I know the key to failure is trying to please everyone.” Exactly. Had I seen this 13 years ago, I could have saved myself a lot of trouble. Truthfully, however, had I seen this 13 years ago, I wouldn’t have learned so much, would have missed a lot of fun and not been able to see the miracle of life and love transformation as I am witnessing now.

So, I’m ready to face my brunette fears. Try out the real me for a bit. See how it fits. Just made another appointment with Kevin Anderson of Dylan’s Salon in Arcadia for a little brunette love next month. He thinks I won’t like it, so if he’s right I can always go back to my original roots as a blonde or just shave it and sport my lavender-blonde Lady Gaga wig for a bit!  ;)

Happy Wednesday. It’s a gorgeous day for a Wednesday! xo, kb
