When it comes to determination and passion for creativity, jewelry designer, Pamela Love stays true to her philosophy and empirical work ethic. Love lives and works in New York City and started her label in 2006. She was inspired by symbol-laden metal and crystal-work while working as an assistant to painter Francesco Clemente and styling fashion shoots. Since she didn’t study jewelry design in school, Love had to apprentice and learn through experimentation.
Each piece of jewelry has its own story to tell, is well made and unique. Pamela Love doesn’t produce anything in factories in Asia. Because of that production is a little bit slower and more expensive. Love told Chris Wallace, editor and writer for Business of Fashion the following about production, “When a store places an order, that is usually when we go into production. As we’ve grown we’ve learned, ok, these are really popular, maybe we should make a certain amount of extra in addition to our orders.”
The hardest lesson Love has learned along the way is that you have to spend money to make money. She also has fantastic advice for aspiring designers that I find to be very inspiring. “Know as much as you can. Be able to make everything yourself before you start mass producing something or sending it out for someone else to make.
